History of The Gary M. Smith Foundation

The mission of the Gary M. Smith Foundation is to provide financial assistance to those in need within the community of Brownsburg, Indiana AND throughout the country.  Our principal charter is to award a financial scholarship each year in the name of Gary M. Smith, to a graduating senior at Brownsburg High School who plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  Our Board of Directors, which is comprised of eight non-compensated volunteers, has also approved annual financial contribution and support to other charitable causes including The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, IU Cancer Research, The Thomas Burnett Family Foundation, the sponsoring of under privileged families during the Holidays, and other charities selected each year.  The financial revenue generated for the Gary M. Smith Foundation is derived from three primary sources:  1) Private donations  2) The Gary M. Smith Foundation Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, founded in 1991, and  3) The Gary M. Smith Foundation Comedy Night.  These annual events, along with periodic financial support has enabled the Gary M. Smith Foundation to award over $75,000 in aid to others in Gary’s name.
